Beyond the Ticket — Building a Stage for Connection

What does theatre mean to you?

For one student at Foxborough Regional Charter School (FRCS), theatre serves as a mirror of history and the human experience. For another, it’s a space in school where they can relax and be themselves. And for another still, it’s a source of inspiration for how to carry themselves in their daily lives.

At Rodman for Kids, we believe every child deserves the chance to see themselves reflected on stage, to find confidence in creativity, and to feel connected to something larger than themselves. That’s why we’re so proud to help bring collaborations like the one between FRCS and Uncommon Theatre Company to life.

What began as two separate conversations – one with a school eager to expand arts access and another with a theatre company in need of rehearsal space – quickly became something bigger. It became an opportunity to align missions, share resources, and create meaningful experiences for students.

Through Rodman for Kids’ support and facilitation, FRCS and Uncommon Theatre Company came together to form a partnership that brings theatre education directly into the classroom. FRCS offers rehearsal and performance space, while Uncommon brings its expertise and programming to students – creating an environment where creativity can thrive.

During a recent focus group with FRCS juniors and seniors, students spoke about how access to theatre in school could deepen their learning, expand their confidence, and give them a platform for self-expression. Their voices reinforced exactly why these partnerships matter – because access to the arts isn’t just about a ticket to a show; it’s about the horizons that broaden as a result.

For the students, theatre and arts education provide a space to explore creativity, build confidence, and connect with peers. For the organizations, the collaboration expands access to the arts and demonstrates how partnerships can turn shared values into meaningful action. Together, this collaboration reflects what’s possible when organizations unite around a shared belief — that theatre has the power to connect, uplift, and empower.

By building bridges between schools, theatre companies, and communities, Rodman for Kids continues to create pathways for kids to engage with the arts in ways that last long after the curtain closes. Because when we work together, the impact extends far beyond the stage.
