Sometimes, the most meaningful measure of impact doesn’t come from attendance numbers or program reports. Sometimes, it arrives in an envelope.
Recently, our Theatre for Kids team received a handwritten letter from a student at Stoughton High School following a Theatre for Kids experience. In just a few short paragraphs, the student, Stella, captured exactly why access to the arts matters.
“So many kids become inspired by the theatre community and continue to explore it because of you!”
For many young people, attending a live performance isn’t an everyday opportunity. Cost, transportation, and other barriers often make theatre inaccessible. Through the Theatre for Kids program, Rodman for Kids partners with schools, nonprofits, and theaters across Massachusetts to ensure students can experience live performances regardless of their circumstances.
But our goal has never been simply to fill seats. It’s to spark curiosity, inspire confidence, and help young people see new possibilities for themselves.
The letter continues:
“Not all kids have the opportunity to see these amazing shows and I can tell that we are all so grateful for these opportunities.”
That’s why Theatre for Kids exists.
Every performance introduces students to new stories, new perspectives, and often a world they may have never imagined for themselves. Sometimes it inspires a future actor. Sometimes it creates a lifelong theatre lover. Sometimes it simply reminds a young person that they belong in spaces that once felt out of reach.
Perhaps the most powerful words in the letter were these:
“We are the next generation of performers and thanks to Rodman for Kids, the inspiration will continue to thrive, and so will we!”
That’s the ripple effect of opportunity. Today’s audience members becomes tomorrow’s artists, educators, volunteers, mentors, and community leaders.
