At Rodman for Kids, we believe every young person deserves access to arts, arts education, and meaningful cultural experiences. That’s why we’re proud to announce our expanded partnership for 2026 with Commonwealth Shakespeare Company (CSC) – a collaboration that brings the power of live theatre directly to students across Massachusetts.
Earlier this spring, CSC’s Stage2 series presented their compelling production of Macbeth, and through our partnership, Rodman for Kids was able to send more than 1,600 kids to attend student matinees. That’s 1,600+ young people experiencing Shakespeare’s language and themes through the artistry and exhilaration of a live-performance.
We’re thrilled to share that for the entire 2026 Stage2 season of Romeo & Juliet, Rodman for Kids will cover the cost of all student tickets, making this vital theatrical experience entirely accessible to schools and youth organizations regardless of budget.
“We couldn’t be more thrilled about our blossoming partnership with Rodman for Kids, which will bring hundreds of kids to see Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol” this holiday season, and over 5,000 kids to our Stage2 production of Romeo & Juliet this spring. We are all about access, and Rodman for Kids allows us to hold the door wide open.” – Bryn Boice, Associate Artistic Director and Director of Education and Training, CSC
Held at the historic Strand Theatre in Dorchester from May 21–29, this production of the classic tale is specifically crafted for students in grades 6–12, using Shakespeare’s original text (abridged to ~100 minutes, no intermission) and followed by talkbacks. All CSC productions include open captioning for further accessibility to the text, and for those with hearing impairments.
“Access and opportunity are at the heart of Rodman for Kids’ mission, and Commonwealth Shakespeare Company has been an incredible partner in bringing that vision to life. Their commitment to making theatre accessible to all young people aligns seamlessly with our own values. When mission and action come together like this, truly meaningful partnerships can happen – and this is one of them.” – Bill Stiles, Director of Programs, Rodman for Kids
Why This Partnership Matters
- Access & Equity: By funding the ticket costs, Rodman for Kids eliminates a financial barrier, ensuring ALL students can attend without schools shouldering the cost.
- Cultural Enrichment: Live theatre expands the classroom, immersing young learners in language, storytelling, empathy, and critical thinking.
- Partnership Synergy: CSC’s educational mission aligns with our goal of providing opportunities for young people to “dream, grow, and succeed.”
- Educational Impact: The Stage2 format is tailored for adolescent audiences, making Shakespeare approachable and engaging rather than intimidating.
Because of this powerful partnership, we will witness thousands of students in 2026 take their seats in the theatre, feel the energy of Shakespeare’s work on stage, and walk away inspired by what they’ve seen.
Here’s to a transformative year ahead with young people at the center of the story.
