This year, Rodman for Kids will celebrate a major milestone: enriching the lives of 100,000 kids through the power of live performance with our Theatre for Kids program. To honor this moment, we’re launching 100 Stories for 100,000 Kids—a collection of stories highlighting the impact, gratitude, and growth made possible by this program. Each story reflects the strength of our partnerships and the incredible ripple effect that access and opportunity can create.
While a Theatre for Kids experience may begin with a ticket in hand for the kids, there’s so much that happens behind the scenes to make that moment possible. That’s why we couldn’t think of a better way to begin this campaign than by spotlighting the partner who helped us write the very first chapter of Theatre for Kids: Broadway In Boston.
Before Theatre for Kids even had a name—before it became an official program—there was a moment, a spark, that set it all in motion: a full buyout performance of South Pacific, made possible by Broadway In Boston. It was our very first theatre outing, and it planted the seed for what would grow into one of our most impactful and beloved programs.
Since that night, Broadway In Boston has been our biggest champion. Show after show, season after season, they’ve welcomed thousands of kids into their theatres—many of whom had never stepped foot in one before. They’ve given these kids not only a seat in the audience, but also a sense of belonging, inspiration, and possibility.
Tivon Marcus, Vice President of Broadway In Boston, reflected on this partnership by saying,
“It is incredible to think of the impact Rodman for Kids has had on (almost!) 100,000 young audience members. From that very first Rodman for Kids performance of South Pacific back in 2001, we have worked tirelessly to ensure Rodman for Kids’ mission can be realized to the greatest extent. We applaud Rodman for Kids on what will be a monumental milestone, and as Broadway In Boston continues to bring the best of Broadway to New England audiences, we cannot wait to share so many more first-time experiences at the theater with Rodman for Kids.”
Through their unwavering support, we’ve brought kids to see everything from The Lion King to Les Misérables, from Wicked to Frozen—each performance offering a new perspective, a burst of joy, and often, a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Amy Rossman, Executive Director of Rodman for Kids, shared her gratitude for this extraordinary partnership:
“Broadway In Boston has been a true partner since day one. Their belief in the power of live performance—and in the potential of every child who walks through their doors—has helped make this milestone a reality. While we’re deeply grateful to every partner who has helped us grow the Theatre for Kids program, Broadway In Boston has been with us from the very first step into the theatre, making them a true champion of the program. We’re so thankful that they continue to walk beside us every step of the way.”
Thank you, Broadway In Boston, for believing in this vision from the very start. For giving kids a place to dream. And for being the true stars behind the curtain.
Stay tuned as we continue counting up to 100,000 kids impacted by sharing the stories that got us here—one seat, one show, and one child at a time.
