When Don Rodman came up with the idea for what was originally called “Celebration of Giving,” he thought that he would be able to raise $100,000 to help buy winter coats, holiday meals, and maybe even some toys for kids during the holiday season. He could not possibly have foreseen that the now named “Celebration for Kids” would earn the reputation of Boston’s best holiday party, consistently raising at least $1 million annually for kids.
Since it’s inception, Celebration for Kids has been a unique gala event equipped with a huge live and silent auction, dozens of local high-end chefs, and an incredible dance party to top off the night. In 2019, our silent auction alone raised over $110,000!
The craziness of 2020 didn’t stop us from raising money for kids and families. We hosted the first ever Virtual Celebration for Kids on December 1, raising over $300,000. The Virtual Celebration was aired live on Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube and was hosted by Lauren Baker, with appearances by the Wahlberg family, then Mayor Marty Walsh, Chefs Andy Husbands and Steve DiFillippo, and more.
Over the years, Celebration for Kids has raised over $15 million to help kids enjoy a brighter holiday season and receive vital support and services throughout the year.
This year’s Celebration will look a little different and be a little smaller due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic:
What will remain the same?
- Great foods and drinks
- A (smaller) silent and live auction
- Great company
- And of course, a great cause with the funds raised going to our Partner Organizations
What will be different?
- A new venue
- An indoor/outdoor program
- More casual attire
- Unique entertainment
We are honored to have amazing supporters come out annually to celebrate the holiday season and, more importantly, give back by helping our community’s most vulnerable kids.
